Abraham Lincoln said “Give me 6 hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first 4 hours sharpening the ax.” A dull ax make far more work and it can be very dangerous too, if it glances off the tree rather than digging in it could go off target and hurt you or those close to you.
When our spiritual life is dull and has lost it’s edge life is much harder and more dangerous. We need some breakthroughs! Maybe you need some personal breakthroughs in your relationships, your health, your happiness, your finances or some other area. God wants us to prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers. The key is getting our soul to prosper. Sowing into our spiritual life with prayer and fasting is a great way to start the year. It will make us shaper for all the other events and tasks of the year. God loves to communicate to us. He has some awesome things to say too! Fasting helps us tune in. Do you feel closer on day two? Are your hearing him or feeling His presence more? I am and I love it!

Ecc. 10:10
Using a dull ax requires great strength,
so sharpen the blade.
That’s the value of wisdom;
it helps you succeed.
